Do NOT Eat Fruit With Yogurt For Breakfast As It Severely Harms Your Gut Health; Here's How

Fruits are citric and that is why the casein protein does not gel with it causing you digestive troubles

While you may prefer eating a healthy breakfast as a nutritious and energy-filled start to your day, there are loads of options that provide nourishment. However, some seemingly healthy dishes and food combinations might not be as helpful for your gut health as they appear.
How many times have you paired a bowl of yogurt with fruits and ended up feeling something wrong with your tummy? According to experts, while fruits and yogurt are two of the best foods for your digestion, together they can cause havoc.

Why should you not pair fruits and yogurt together?

Dr. Dimple Jangda says the natural acids found in fruits can interfere with dairy, leading to minimum calcium absorption and digestive issues like bloating and gas. She explains that fruits are naturally citric and that is why the casein protein does not gel with it, causing you digestive troubles. “That means you will not be able to absorb calcium from that particular food and end up with weaker bones in the long run,” she said on her Instagram.
“Fruits contain simple sugars and dairy contains lactose—the simple sugars start acting on the lactose fermenting in your gut, leading to gas formation, bloating, indigestion, flatulence, and such embarrassing situations,” she added.

What is the correct way to eat fruits and yogurt?

Dr. Jangda says to avoid any issue related to your health, it is best to eat them separately. You can eat fruits in the morning and then “give a gap of at least 60 minutes before you eat your bowl of yogurt,” she says.
Keep a few other things in mind when combining fruits with other ingredients:
  • Always avoid combining dairy and fruit. You can first have your fruit and then move on to yogurt or milk to help keep digestive problems at bay.
  • If you want to pair your fruits with another ingredient, always choose nuts, as they not only make a better combination but also prevent a sugar spike, apart from providing you with lots of protein.
  • If possible, try to consume fruits as a 4 pm snack. However, if you still crave them during the day, enjoy them between meals and do not eat them with other solid foods.

Healthy foods you can pair with yogurt

For those who love yogurt as a breakfast food, make sure to add these to the bowl:

Peanut butter

A powerhouse of protein, this delicious ingredient not only tastes well but also gives you a double dose of energy and nutrition.

Honey

Drizzle a dash of honey into your yogurt bowl for natural sweetness, which does not cause as much glucose spike as sugar does.

Dates

Dates and yogurt, when combined, form a rich and buttery flavour with an exciting texture. Dates are loaded with iron and are natural sweeteners without calories.

Pistachios

The sweet and salty character and crunchy, bite-size proportions of pistachios make them a lovely ingredient for a variety of dishes.

Coconut flakes

You can toast the coconut shavings and add them as a pleasant tropical topping for the best taste and solid nourishment.
